Tek
Hee, there's really no better way to take the sting out of a tough 8-6 loss against one's rivals than to turn around and whomp them 17-1 the next night. I didn't get to see the game, as I was hanging out at [info]cute_fuzzy_evil and [info]ethicsgradient's place, getting whomped at Scrabble, but just the box score makes me happy. It was good to see Wells have a good night against his old team, since he's been rather inconsistent. Nixon had an awesome night again (wonder what his average/slugging stats are against the Yankees or maybe he's just hot right now), and Varitek had a double and two walks. 'Tek has dropped from his ridiculous .320ish average to .302, but I am not complaining. He's having a great year. Damon, meanwhile, is on a ridiculous tear. I am not very fond of him as a personality; he comes across as dumb and seems to love the limelight a little too much, but I sure can't quibble with him as a player, since he has a .346 average and a 27 game hitting streak. Yikes.

In the ongoing evolution of the team's facial hair there are several developments. (Yes, I know it is very silly that I notice this stuff.) Trot has adopted the Varitek/Wakefield style goatee/mustache combo, and it is sure as heck better than the Wyatt Earp style he had been sporting. Meanwhile, Theo appears to be growing a similar goatee, but minus the mustache, and it just looks unfortunate. I love Theo, but if he doesn't shave that goofy fuzz, I may have to transfer my affections to the social worker twin brother he mentioned during the game Thursday night.

(in searching for the above photos, I ran across Varitek's rookie card in which he is young, clean-shaven, and just adorable. :)

You sound like a proud mother. I laughed too loudly for the library when I saw the picture.

Despite the impressions that [info]haakon and [info]megastoat will try to give you, my feelings toward 'Tek are much closer to what you describe than the typical fan-girl obsession. Never mind that he's actually three years older than me. :)

It's fun to see who you bump into with mistyped LJ names. [info]haakon, [info]haak0n's near-namesake, has this to say:

"Why dose the red neck who drinks beers all day long beats his wife and works on his truck more socal exceotd than some one who has fun playibg a game I mean jocks the dumb's who run around trowing a ball in a hoop are playing a sencelss game but they have a life."

I'm pleased.

Wow. Just wow. I can't even understand some of that.

I was at the game this afternoon with people from work (even managed to snag an extra ticket for [info]osmos. I felt embarassed for the Devil Rays. But it was fun to win and the RF Grandstand seat were perfectly shaded and breezy, despite the outrageous heat out on the way there and back.
